Our instruments are closely modeled on an original but may be modified (for example, extension of range) or simplified (especially with regard to decorative details such as borders, mouldings, elaborate stands) for construction or musical reasons.
The action (keyboards and registers) is built by us to our design; the jacks (in service-wood) are made for us by a colleague.
The painting is done with a primer, paint or tempera, the gilding with gold leaf (a brass alloy). Any additional decoration is not included in the price.
At your request can be built in the “facsimile” version. These particular instruments are absolutely exact reproductions of an original, duplicating every individual part, both structural and decorative.
Assembly is done with heated animal glue. All parts of the action (jacks, keyboards, registers) are made by us based on the design of the original. The hardware (hinges, pins, nails) is made by hand using traditional techniques.
The painting is done with gesso, earth-based pigments, and spirit varnish, the gilding with pure gold.
